The Occult certainly has an active presence within Gothic/Industrial Culture. There really can be little doubt about that. One is very likely to find - were one so inclined to take an actual census - that there are more people within the Culture whose belief systems could be accurately classified as “Pagan” than there are in the greater, contemporary Western society as a whole. Perhaps this is attributed to a higher incidence of open-mindedness among Goths. Maybe it is yet another rebellious response to the mainstream.
Someone asked me recently how I had been doing, lately.
I said that I had fallen on hard times.
“That’s great,” she said.
I stopped for a moment, listening for the deep, philosophical meaning of the statement. Would she illustrate how hard times strengthen the spirit? Did she have some insight into the nature of adversity or the hidden lesson in Life’s most trying moments…? I really hoped so. I waited.
She smiled blankly.
